Stoic Reading
“You shouldn’t give circumstances the power to rouse anger, for they don’t care at all.”
— Marcus Aurelius

Main Idea
Other people’s actions, opinions, and behavior often pull us into frustration or anger. Stoicism teaches that these external things are not under our control.
What is under our control is our response.
When we allow someone else’s behavior to control our emotions, we have handed them authority over our inner life.
The Stoic goal is inner sovereignty — remaining calm, rational, and steady regardless of what others do.

Stoicism vs Christianity
Stoicism:
Control your emotions through discipline and reason.
Christianity:
Surrender your heart to God and allow the Holy Spirit to transform your response.
Both aim at peace, but Christianity says true peace comes from trusting God, not just self-control.
Reflection
- When someone upsets me, who is controlling my response?
- Am I reacting emotionally or responding with wisdom?
Prayer
Lord,
Help me guard my heart and not let the actions of others control my spirit.
Teach me to respond with patience, wisdom, and humility like Christ.
Amen.
