This is the method behind the notes. It is a systematic workflow designed to combine the rigor of ancient context studies with the efficiency of modern personal knowledge management tools.
Most of my study revolves around recovering the “strangeness” of the Biblical text. This requires a consistent routine that balances broad narrative immersion with deep-dive lexical analysis.
The Daily Routine
- Pray first — seek understanding, wisdom, and an open heart.
- Contextual Overview — Watch The Bible Project video for the specific book to get a 30,000-foot view.
- Narrative Immersion — Listen to the entire book in audio (via Dwell, Olive Tree, or Logos) to grasp the full narrative arc.
- Knowledge Management — Create an Obsidian note for the book and chapter. Use AI to generate a chapter overview.
- Follow the F-260 Reading Plan — Focusing on the New Testament via Long Hollow.
- Old Testament Narrative — Follow the OT Narrative Reading Plan in parallel.
- Comparative Reading — Read the chapter in two translations:
- Thought-for-thought (NLT) for natural flow and meaning.
- Word-for-word (ESV or LSB) for proximity to the original languages.
- Capture Questions — Document research questions sparked by the reading in Obsidian.
- Deep Dive — Move to verse-level study in Logos Bible Software, focusing on word studies and cross-references.
- Pray to close — Reflect on convictions and applications for the day.
Greek & Hebrew — 15 Minutes a Day
- Daily Vocab — Learn 2 vocabulary words per day via Gemini chapter prep integrated into Obsidian.
- Biblingo — Consistent 10-15 minute daily sessions for language acquisition.
- Lexical Research — Look up significant words in the Lexham Theological Wordbook via Logos.
- Synthesis — When a word is recognized in the wild, tag the reference in Obsidian.
How AI Helps Me Study
- Pre-reading summaries and book overviews.
- Hebrew and Greek vocabulary preparation.
- Ancient Near Eastern (ANE) and historical background research.
- Theological “sparring” — using Claude to push back on arguments and test logic
