Meditation Title: You Are the Project
Stoic Quote
“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.”
— Epictetus
Stoic Insight
- Much of human anxiety comes from trying to control things outside our control.
- Stoicism teaches that peace comes when we focus on what we can control: our actions, character, and choices.
- External events, circumstances, and other people’s actions are largely outside our power.
- The real “project” of life becomes improving our character and inner life.
Core Stoic principle: Focus on mastering yourself rather than controlling the world.
Alignment with Biblical Wisdom
Scripture also teaches that many things in life are outside human control and belong to God.
- Humans are not sovereign—God is.
- Worry does not change the future.
- Our responsibility is faithfulness and trust in God.
- Believers are called to guard their hearts, character, and obedience.
Where Christianity Goes Further
Stoicism emphasizes self-mastery through reason.
Christianity teaches transformation through God’s grace and the Holy Spirit.
- True change comes from God working within us.
- Peace comes through trust in God’s sovereignty, not just discipline.
- Christians rely on Christ’s strength, not only personal control.
The Christian response becomes:
- Trust God with what you cannot control
- Faithfully steward what God has placed in your care

Supporting Scriptures
Matthew 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
James 4:13–15
“Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’”
Philippians 4:6–7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Christ Connection
Jesus demonstrated perfect trust in the Father.
- He submitted completely to the Father’s will (John 6:38).
- Even in suffering He prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
- His peace came from trusting God completely, not controlling circumstances.
Through Christ we learn that the real work of life is the transformation of the heart.
Reflection Questions
- What worries am I trying to control that belong to God?
- Am I trusting God’s plan or relying only on my own understanding?
- What part of my character should I focus on developing today?
Prayer
Lord,
Help me release the things that are beyond my control.
Teach me to trust Your wisdom and sovereignty.
Transform my heart so I grow in faith, obedience, and character.
Amen.
Action Step Today
- Identify one worry and give it to God in prayer.
- Focus today on strengthening one area of character or discipline.
- When anxiety appears, remind yourself: God is in control.
