Greek for ‘self-sufficient’ or ‘content.’ Paul uses this term in Philippians 4:11: ‘I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content (autarkēs).’ Carries a Stoic philosophical heritage that Paul reframes through Christ. (Source: Wright.)
