Abelshittim
Israel's last camp before crossing the Jordan, on the plains of Moab opposite Jericho. The name means meadow of acacias, and most of the Old Testament just calls it Shittim. Balaam was hired from here, and this is where Israel went after Baal-peor.

Abel-shittim, "the meadow of acacias," was Israel's last encampment on the plains of Moab before crossing the Jordan into Canaan (Numbers 33:49). Usually called simply Shittim elsewhere in the Old Testament, it was the setting for Balak's hire of Balaam, Israel's apostasy with Baal-peor, and Moses' final instructions before his death. It lay east of the Jordan opposite Jericho, though its exact site in the valley remains disputed.
