Who this is

Akkad was one of the founding cities of Nimrod's kingdom in the Table of Nations, paired with Babel, Erech, and Calneh in the land of Shinar (Genesis 10:10). It was the capital of Sargon of Akkad's empire around 2300 BC, the first empire to unite Mesopotamia's city-states under one ruler, and the Akkadian language it gave its name to became the region's dominant tongue for the next two thousand years. Despite more than a century of searching, archaeologists have never located the city itself; its site, somewhere along the Euphrates near Babylon, remains one of the most sought-after unsolved locations in Near Eastern archaeology.
