Who this is

The Greek form of Ahaz, king of Judah, listed as an ancestor of Jesus in Matthew's genealogy (Matthew 1:9). The historical Ahaz reigned in the late eighth century BC and allied with Assyria against a coalition of Israel and Syria; he is named as a tribute payer to Tiglath-Pileser III in that king's own Assyrian annals under the name Jehoahaz of Judah, one of the clearer points of extrabiblical corroboration for Judah's royal line.
