Who this is

Ahasuerus is the Persian king who made Esther his queen after deposing Vashti, usually identified with Xerxes the First, whose reign is independently documented in Greek and Persian sources and whose famously lavish, extended banquets match the opening scene of the book of Esther closely. A different Ahasuerus appears briefly in the book of Daniel as the father of Darius the Mede.
