Who this is

Ahaz was a king of Judah who abandoned the reforms of his predecessors, sacrificing his own son in the fire and closing the temple to set up pagan altars instead, and rather than trust God's promise of protection through the prophet Isaiah, he paid the Assyrian empire for protection against a coalition of enemies, a decision that made Judah an Assyrian vassal for a generation. It was during Ahaz's crisis that Isaiah delivered the famous prophecy of a child to be called Immanuel, God with us.
