Who this is

The Amorites were one of the peoples living in Canaan before Israel's conquest, traditionally traced to a son of Canaan in Genesis 10, and the Old Testament sometimes uses their name loosely for the hill country's inhabitants in general. A specific Amorite kingdom east of the Jordan, ruled by Sihon and Og, fell to Israel under Moses and became the basis for Reuben and Gad's territory in Numbers 21. Outside the Bible, Amorites, called Amurru in Mesopotamian texts, were a real West Semitic people who migrated into Mesopotamia in the early second millennium BC and founded several dynasties there, including the one that produced Hammurabi of Babylon. Their language and personal names are well documented in cuneiform archives from Mari and elsewhere.
