Who this is

Aner carries two distinct senses under one name. In Genesis it names an Amorite chief allied with Mamre and Eshcol who joined Abraham in pursuing the four kings who had captured Lot (Genesis 14:13, 24). Separately, 1 Chronicles lists Aner as a town in the territory of Manasseh set aside for the Levites of Kohath's clan, alongside Taanach in the fuller parallel list at Joshua 21:25.
