Ashan was a small town in the lowlands of Judah that was later reassigned to Simeon, whose inheritance lay within Judah's larger territory (Joshua 15:42; 19:7). It was given to the Levites of Aaron's line as one of their priestly cities (1 Chronicles 6:59). Its exact site has not been identified.
