Ashtaroth
Ashtaroth under another spelling, the fortified capital of Og, king of Bashan, east of the Jordan. It went to the half-tribe of Manasseh and then to the Levites of Gershon. The name comes from the goddess Ashtoreth, and the site is generally put at Tell Ashtarah in the Golan.

The spelling here is a variant of Ashtaroth, the fortified capital of Og, king of Bashan, east of the Jordan (Deuteronomy 1:4; Joshua 12:4; 13:12). It was assigned to the half-tribe of Manasseh and later given to the Levites of Gershon; its name comes from Ashtoreth, the Canaanite goddess whose worship was centered there, and archaeologists generally locate it at Tell Ashtarah in the Golan region of modern Syria.
