Baal-meon was a town east of the Jordan rebuilt by the tribe of Reuben and known by several related names, including Beth-baal-meon and Beth-meon (Numbers 32:38; Ezekiel 25:9). It lay in territory that passed back and forth between Israel and Moab, and the Moabite king Mesha claims on his own inscription, the Moabite Stone, to have rebuilt Baal-meon and built a reservoir there, an extrabiblical confirmation of the town's existence. It is identified with the modern site of Ma'in, southeast of Heshbon.
