Baal-zephon was a site on the shore near where the Israelites camped before crossing the sea during the exodus, mentioned as a landmark in both the crossing narrative and the wilderness itinerary (Exodus 14:2, 9; Numbers 33:7). The name reflects the Canaanite storm god Baal-Zaphon, whose cult had spread into Egypt's eastern Delta, and Egyptian records of the period independently mention a place of that name near the frontier. Its exact location along the ancient shoreline is still debated.
