Who this is

Barnabas was a Levite from Cyprus whose given name was Joseph, and the apostles nicknamed him Barnabas, meaning son of encouragement, after he sold a field and gave the money to the Jerusalem church. He was the one who vouched for the newly converted Saul when the other believers still feared him as a persecutor, and he later recruited Saul to help lead the church at Antioch and traveled with him on the first missionary journey. Barnabas and Paul eventually split over whether to bring Barnabas's cousin John Mark on a second journey, a sharp enough disagreement that they went separate ways afterward.
