First, in plain English

He commanded David's bodyguard, and before that he was known for killing a lion in a pit on a snowy day. He also beat an Egyptian giant by wrestling the giant's own spear off him and killing him with it.

Who this is

Benaiah commanded David's personal bodyguard and was famous even before that role for killing a lion in a pit on a snowy day and defeating an Egyptian giant by wrestling away the giant's own spear and killing him with it. He stayed loyal to Solomon during Adonijah's attempted coup and personally executed both Joab and Adonijah on Solomon's orders afterward, and Solomon rewarded him by making him commander of the entire army in Joab's place.
