Who this is

The Gospels use this name for two different places. The better known is a village on the southeastern slope of the Mount of Olives, about two miles from Jerusalem, home to Lazarus, Mary, and Martha; Jesus stayed there in his final week, raised Lazarus from the dead nearby, and it was near here that he ascended into heaven. A separate Bethany "beyond the Jordan" was the location where John the Baptist was baptizing when he first pointed his disciples to Jesus as the Lamb of God.
