The mountains of Bether, in a refrain of the Song of Solomon, are most likely rugged, cleft hills rather than one spot on a map.
The mountains of Bether appear in a poetic refrain in the Song of Solomon, most likely describing rugged, cleft hills rather than naming one specific location (Song of Sol. 2:17). Some associate the name with the village of Bittir west of Jerusalem, later the site of the fortress Betar where the Bar Kokhba revolt made its last stand against Rome in 135 AD, though given the poem's imagery that link is far from certain.
