Who this is

Charran is the Greek form of Haran used in Stephen's speech before the Sanhedrin, where he recounts that Abraham settled there with his father Terah after leaving Ur, before God called him onward to Canaan following Terah's death (Acts 7:2, 4). The city of Harran in northern Mesopotamia is well attested outside the Bible as a major trade and religious center devoted to the moon god Sin, important enough that Babylon's last king, Nabonidus, rebuilt its temple there some fifteen centuries after Abraham's time.
