Ninth month, late November into December, also spelled Kislev and taken from the Babylonian calendar.
Ninth month, late November into December, also spelled Kislev and taken from the Babylonian calendar.
Chisleu, also spelled Kislev, is not a person but the name of the ninth month of the Hebrew religious calendar, roughly corresponding to late November and December, adopted from the Babylonians after the exile (Nehemiah 1:1; Zechariah 7:1). It marks the season in which Nehemiah heard the report of Jerusalem's broken walls and Zechariah received several of his visions. The later festival of Hanukkah also falls in this month, though it is not mentioned in these particular passages.
