Clauda, also spelled Cauda, was a small island off the southwest coast of Crete that Paul's ship passed under the shelter of during the storm that eventually wrecked it on Malta (Acts 27:16). Sailors used its lee to haul in the ship's boat and undergird the vessel with ropes before running before the wind. The island is identified with modern Gavdos, the southernmost point of Europe.
