Who this is

Two Persian kings named Darius appear in the Old Testament. Darius the Mede is named in Daniel as ruling Babylon immediately after its fall, the king who reluctantly signed the decree that landed Daniel in the lion's den. Darius the Great, a later and better-attested Persian emperor, authorized the resumption of temple construction in Jerusalem after work had stalled, and his decree is preserved in the book of Ezra.
