Dedanim were the descendants of Dedan, an Arabian people whose caravans Isaiah pictures lodging in the desert thickets, and whom Ezekiel later lists among the merchants supplying Tyre with goods. Dedan is generally located at the oasis of al-Ula in northwest Arabia, where excavated inscriptions in the ancient Dedanite and Lihyanite scripts confirm the existence of a real trading kingdom by that name.
