Ebal (Edomite living at the time of the Patriarchs)
The mountain of the curses, opposite Mount Gerizim near Shechem. Moses ordered six tribes onto Ebal to speak the covenant's curses while six on Gerizim spoke its blessings, and Joshua built an altar there and wrote the law on stones. A Horite chief descended from Seir carried the name too.

Mount Ebal stands opposite Mount Gerizim near Shechem; Moses instructed that after entering Canaan, six tribes would stand on Ebal to pronounce the covenant's curses while six stood on Gerizim for its blessings, and Joshua built an altar and inscribed the law on stones there. The name also belonged to a chief of the Horites descended from Seir and, in a variant spelling, to a descendant of Eber in Shem's genealogy.
