Eli
The high priest and judge at Shiloh who raised Samuel after Hannah gave him to the Lord. His sons stole sacrificial meat and slept with the women serving at the tabernacle door, and Eli only scolded them. Both died in the battle where the ark was taken, and Eli fell backward off his seat at the news and broke his neck, aged ninety-eight.

Eli was the high priest and judge at Shiloh who raised the boy Samuel after his mother Hannah dedicated him to the Lord's service, but Eli's own sons abused their priestly position, stealing sacrificial meat and sleeping with women who served at the tabernacle entrance, and Eli rebuked them only mildly despite God's repeated warnings. Both sons died in the same battle where the Ark of the Covenant was captured by the Philistines, and Eli himself died of a broken neck falling backward from his seat when he heard the news, at ninety-eight years old.
