Who this is

En-gedi was an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea, famous for its vineyards (Song of Solomon 1:14) and fed by a freshwater spring dropping some 600 feet down the cliffs above it. David hid in its caves while fleeing Saul and there spared Saul's life when he crept up on him unseen (1 Samuel 24); excavations at the site have uncovered a Chalcolithic-era temple predating Israel's settlement of Canaan by well over a thousand years.
