Fact Book

The same name traced across the biblical canon and the Second Temple texts, side by side.

Gath-rimmon

In Dan's territory, and given to the Kohathite Levites. A second Gath-rimmon shows up in the Manasseh list, but 1 Chronicles 6:70 has Bileam there instead, which looks like a copying slip rather than two towns with one name.

Who this is

Gath-rimmon was a Levitical city in the territory of Dan, given to the Kohathite Levites (Joshua 19:45; 21:24). A second town of the same name appears in the list of Levitical cities within the territory of the half tribe of Manasseh (Joshua 21:25), but the parallel list in 1 Chronicles 6:70 names the town there as Bileam instead, suggesting a copying error duplicated the Danite town's name into the Manasseh list rather than two identical town names actually existing.
