Gideon (Judge living before Israel's Monarchy)
An angel found him threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding it from the Midianites, and called him a mighty man of valour. Gideon asked for the fleece to be wet and then dry before he believed it. God cut his army from thirty-two thousand to three hundred, and they took the Midianite camp at night with torches, trumpets and empty jars.

Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to hide it from raiding Midianites when an angel found him and called him a mighty man of valor, a title Gideon immediately questioned given that his clan was the weakest in Manasseh and he was the least in his father's house. He asked God to prove the call was real with the sign of a fleece left out overnight, wet with dew while the ground stayed dry and then dry while the ground stayed wet, and God still whittled his army down from thirty-two thousand men to three hundred before letting him attack the Midianite camp with torches, trumpets, and empty jars in the middle of the night.
