Gilboa
Saul died on these hills above the Jezreel Valley. The Philistines broke his army, three of his sons fell, Jonathan among them, and Saul, badly wounded, took his own life. David's lament curses Gilboa never to have dew or rain.

Mount Gilboa is a low mountain range bordering the Jezreel Valley where the Philistines defeated Saul's army; three of Saul's sons, including Jonathan, were killed there, and Saul himself, badly wounded, took his own life rather than be captured. David's lament over Saul and Jonathan, "how the mighty have fallen," opens by cursing Gilboa's slopes to remain barren of dew and rain.
