They were temple servants, the Nethinim, back from Babylon with Zerubbabel around 538 BC, and they are counted under his name. Nothing is known of Hakupha beyond the listing.

Hakupha's descendants, the Bene-Hakupha, were among the families of temple servants (Nethinim) who returned from Babylonian captivity with Zerubbabel around 538 BC (Ezra 2:51; Nehemiah 7:53). Like most Nethinim family heads, nothing is known of Hakupha beyond this listing. The parallel lists in Ezra and Nehemiah preserve slightly different numbers for the returning families, reflecting the difficulty of transmitting census figures across generations of copying.
