Mount Halak marked the southernmost point of the territory Joshua conquered, described as the bare mountain that rises toward Seir on the border with Edom (Josh. 11:17; 12:7). It functions in the text purely as a boundary marker, and while various barren ridges south of the Dead Sea have been suggested as its location, none is certain.
