Isri is not a personal name but the gentilic form of Jezer, one of the sons of Naphtali, used in the wilderness census of Numbers 26:49 to identify the clan descended from him: "of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites." The underlying Hebrew word functions the same way as Hamulites or Shuhamites elsewhere in that same census chapter, marking a family group rather than an individual person. Its appearance among personal-name records in older reference works reflects the difficulty early lexicographers had distinguishing Hebrew gentilic adjectives from proper names once transliterated into English.
