Jaala headed a family among the Nethinim, the temple servants whose descendants returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:56; Nehemiah 7:58). The Nethinim performed menial temple duties and are traditionally traced back to Gibeonites and war captives assigned to Levitical service.
