Jambres, an Egyptian

Who this is

Jambres, along with Jannes, was one of two Egyptian magicians tradition names as having opposed Moses before Pharaoh, replicating some of the plague signs through their secret arts (compare Exodus 7:11, 22). Paul cites the pair by name in 2 Timothy 3:8 as an example of men who oppose the truth, drawing on a tradition current among Jewish teachers though not recorded by name in the Old Testament text itself.
