Fact Book

The same name traced across the biblical canon and the Second Temple texts, side by side.

Jehudijah

Not a name but a label, "the Jewess", on one of Mered's wives. Many think she is Bithiah, Pharaoh's daughter, named in the same verse.

Who this is

Not actually a personal name: the Hebrew text of 1 Chronicles 4:18 reads "ha-Yehudiyyah," an epithet meaning "the Jewess," attached to one of the wives of Mered in the genealogy of Judah. Many interpreters identify her with Bithiah, Pharaoh's daughter, named in the same verse, whose marriage into Judah's line made her "the Jewess" by adoption rather than birth.
