Jeremiah

Jeremiah was a priest's son from Anathoth called to prophesy as a young man in the thirteenth year of King Josiah, and he spent the next four decades warning Judah of the coming Babylonian conquest while the nation's leaders imprisoned him, threw him in a cistern, and burned his prophecies rather than listen. He watched Jerusalem fall exactly as he had predicted and was forced into exile in Egypt against his will after the city's remaining leadership was assassinated. A clay seal impression reading Berekhyahu son of Neriyahu the scribe, found in Jerusalem and dated to Jeremiah's own lifetime, is widely identified with Baruch, the scribe who wrote down Jeremiah's dictated prophecies in Jeremiah 36. Several minor figures elsewhere in the Old Testament share the name Jeremiah but have no connection to the prophet.
