Job (Man living at the time of the Patriarchs)

Job was a wealthy and righteous man from the land of Uz whose story opens with a wager in the divine council: God allows Satan to strip Job of his children, his wealth, and his health to test whether Job's faith depends on his prosperity. Job never curses God, but he does demand an explanation, and most of the book is a long argument between Job and three friends who insist his suffering must be punishment for hidden sin. When God finally answers from a whirlwind, he never actually explains why Job suffered, instead overwhelming Job with the scale of creation, and Job's response is to fall silent and be restored with double what he had before.
