Sharon, the name of a place in Palestine

Who this is

Lasharon, meaning "belonging to Sharon," appears once as the name of a Canaanite town or district whose king Joshua defeated (Joshua 12:18), and most of this record's other references actually belong to the famous Sharon plain, the fertile coastal region between Joppa and Mount Carmel. Sharon supplied excellent royal pastureland (1 Chronicles 27:29) and part of the tribe of Gad settled there (1 Chronicles 5:16); its beauty became proverbial, celebrated as "the rose of Sharon" (Song of Solomon 2:1) and pictured by Isaiah blossoming in the age of restoration (Isaiah 35:2).
