a female Magdalene, i.e. inhabitant of Magdala

Who this is

Magdalene identifies Mary as coming from Magdala, a town on the Sea of Galilee, distinguishing her from the Gospels' other women named Mary. She is best known as a witness to the crucifixion and the first person to see the risen Jesus, and the long standing tradition identifying her with the unnamed sinful woman of Luke 7 has no basis in the biblical text itself.
