Mary (Woman living at the time of the New Testament)
Another Mary in the Gospels, one of the women at the cross and at the empty tomb, and not to be mixed up with Jesus' mother or the Mary of Bethany.
Another Mary in the Gospels, one of the women at the cross and at the empty tomb, and not to be mixed up with Jesus' mother or the Mary of Bethany.
Three different women named Mary appear around Jesus. The most important is his mother, engaged to Joseph when the angel Gabriel told her she would bear the Messiah, who raised Jesus in Nazareth and stood at the foot of the cross when he died. Mary Magdalene was a follower Jesus had healed of seven demons, and she was the first person any Gospel records seeing the risen Jesus, mistaking him for a gardener until he said her name. The third, Mary of Bethany, sister of Martha and Lazarus, is remembered for sitting at Jesus's feet to listen while Martha worked in the kitchen, and for anointing Jesus's feet with expensive perfume shortly before his death.
