Who this is

Two men named Mattathias appear consecutively in Luke's genealogy of Jesus: the son of Amos and the son of Semein, both several generations before Joseph (Luke 3:25-26). Neither is otherwise known; the name, meaning “gift of the Lord,” was common enough to later be borne by the priest who launched the Maccabean revolt roughly a century and a half before Jesus, though that Mattathias is a different, unrelated figure.
