Medeba
An old Moabite town given to Reuben. Joab beat the Ammonites and their Aramean allies near it in David's time, and Moab later took it back, which Isaiah mourns in his oracle against Moab. Today it is Madaba in Jordan, known for a sixth-century Byzantine floor mosaic that is the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land.

Medeba was an ancient Moabite town assigned to the tribe of Reuben after the conquest (Numbers 21:30; Joshua 13:16). Israel's general Joab defeated a coalition of Ammonites and their Aramean allies near the town during David's reign (1 Chronicles 19:7-15), and the Moabites later regained it, a loss Isaiah laments in his oracle against Moab (Isaiah 15:2). The site survives as modern Madaba in Jordan, famous for its sixth-century Byzantine floor mosaic depicting the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land.
