Who this is

Mephaath was a Levitical city in the tribal territory of Reuben, assigned to the Merarite Levites for their dwelling (Joshua 13:18; 21:37; 1 Chronicles 6:79). Jeremiah later includes it in his oracle against Moab, since the region had come under Moabite control by his time (Jeremiah 48:21). Its precise site east of the Jordan has not been securely identified.
