Who this is

Merab was the elder of King Saul's two daughters. Saul promised her in marriage to David after his victory over Goliath but then gave her instead to Adriel of Meholah, apparently to avoid honoring the pledge (1 Samuel 18:17-19). She and Adriel had five sons, who were later handed over to the Gibeonites and executed to atone for Saul's earlier slaughter of Gibeonite lives, part of the famine narrative in 2 Samuel 21.
