Migdol, meaning "tower," names a fortified point on Egypt's northeastern frontier. One Migdol is mentioned in the route of Israel's crossing of the Red Sea in Exodus and Numbers, near the sea's northern end. A Migdol is also named by Jeremiah among the places where Jewish refugees settled after fleeing to Egypt, and Ezekiel uses "from Migdol to Syene" as a way of describing the whole length of Egypt in his oracles of judgment.
