Mithredath, a Hebrew form of the Persian name Mithridates meaning “given by Mithra,” was the royal treasurer of Cyrus who, at the king's command, returned the temple vessels Nebuchadnezzar had looted from Jerusalem to the returning exiles (Ezra 1:8). A different Mithredath was a Persian official in Samaria who joined other local officials in writing a letter to King Artaxerxes opposing the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls (Ezra 4:7).
