Myra was a leading city of the Lycian coast in southwestern Asia Minor, where the centurion guarding Paul transferred him and the other prisoners onto an Alexandrian grain ship bound for Italy, the same ship later wrecked off Malta (Acts 27:5). The site preserves an impressive Roman theater and a cluster of rock-cut tombs carved into the cliffside above the ancient harbor.
