Fact Book

The same name traced across the biblical canon and the Second Temple texts, side by side.

Nachon (Man living at the time of the Patriarchs)

At the threshing floor of Nachon, Uzzah reached out to steady the ark and died. Chronicles calls it the threshing floor of Chidon, and scholars are split on whether that was one man with two names or whether one text named the place rather than its owner.

First, in plain English

Who this is

The owner of the threshing floor near Jerusalem where Uzzah reached out to steady the ark of the covenant and was struck dead for touching it (2 Samuel 6:6). The parallel account in 1 Chronicles 13:9 calls the same site the threshing floor of Chidon instead, and scholars are divided over whether Nachon and Chidon were two names for one man or whether one of the texts originally named the location rather than its owner.
