Who this is

Nebo was the Babylonian god of writing and wisdom, son of Marduk, whose worship spread into Assyria; Isaiah mocks the idol being carted off on beasts of burden as Babylon falls. The name also belonged to the mountain in Moab from which Moses viewed the promised land before his death, identified with Jebel Neba on the ridge of Pisgah east of the Dead Sea, and to a Reubenite town nearby rebuilt after the conquest and later condemned in Moab oracles for its idolatry. A separate town called Nebo in Benjamin gave its name to a family among the exiles who returned with Zerubbabel.
